Living in Da Nang

Vietnam’s beach city — My Khe and coworking in one

Last updated: April 2026

Da Nang sits on the central Vietnamese coast between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It has a long sandy beach (My Khe, one of the best in SE Asia), UNESCO-listed Hoi An ancient town 30 min south, and a growing nomad infrastructure that has made it a favourite alternative to Ho Chi Minh for those who want beach access. The cost of living is among the lowest in any decent nomad city, and the pace is notably calmer than Vietnam’s larger urban centres.

Best beach-and-city balance in Vietnam. Very affordable even by SE Asian standards. Growing coworking and nomad scene. Close proximity to Hoi An (one of SE Asia’s most beautiful old towns). Shorter flight distances within Asia than from Lisbon or Barcelona.

Where to live in Da Nang

An Thuong / My Khe

Beachside, nomad heartland, cafes, coworking, Western amenities.

Hai Chau (central)

Business district, the Han River, more local.

Son Tra peninsula

Upscale villas, nature reserve, quieter.

Thanh Khe

Local residential, cheapest rent, 10 min to centre.

Hoi An (30 min south)

Ancient town, many nomads base here too.

Popular coworking spaces

  • · Hub Hoi An (if basing down there)
  • · Enouvo Space — Da Nang flagship
  • · Surf Space Coworking — at the beach
  • · Cong Cong Coworking
  • · Three Monkeys Hub

Food scene

Central Vietnamese cuisine: bun cha ca, mi quang, banh xeo. Hoi An specialties (cao lau, white rose dumplings) just down the road. Beach seafood restaurants, extremely cheap. Western cafes cater to nomads at slight premium.

Getting around

Scooter is normal (USD 60/mo rental). Grab handles taxi trips cheaply. Walking works within An Thuong. Da Nang International Airport connects to most of Asia.

Internet tip: Viettel and FPT fibre. 100-300 Mbps standard. Most condos/homes include it in rent.

Visa notes

Vietnam does not yet have a formal digital nomad visa (as of 2026). Most nomads rotate between 90-day e-visas (USD 25). Work permits require sponsorship. Da Nang’s newer Southeast Asia immigration policies may change this.

Healthcare & safety

Vinmec Da Nang, FamilyMed, Da Nang International Hospital. GP visit USD 25-50. For complex care, fly to Bangkok or Singapore.

Very safe. Traffic (scooters) is the main day-to-day risk.
